Privacy Policy
What personal data we collect when you become a member or visit the site, how we use it, and the rights you have under the Nigeria Data Protection Act.
GarageHub Limited (“GarageHub”, “we”, “us”, or “our”) is committed to protecting your privacy and handling your personal data responsibly. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, share, and protect your personal information when you visit garagehub.africa and its related subdomains (including academy.garagehub.africa and property.garagehub.africa), or otherwise interact with our coworking, Academy, and Property Desk services (together, the “Services”).
This policy is designed to comply with the Nigeria Data Protection Act, 2023 (the “NDPA”) and, where applicable, the EU/UK General Data Protection Regulation (“GDPR”) for users located in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom.
Please read this policy carefully. By using our Services, you acknowledge that you have read and understood it. If you do not agree with it, please do not use our Services.
1. Who We Are
GarageHub Limited is the data controller responsible for your personal data. We are a company registered in Nigeria, operating an innovation-driven ecosystem across three divisions: GarageHub Coworking, GarageHub Academy, and GarageHub Property Desk.
If you have any questions about this policy or how we handle your data, you can contact us at hello@garagehub.africa.
2. Information We Collect
We collect personal data that you provide to us directly, data we collect automatically when you use our Services, and data we receive from third parties. The specific data we collect depends on which of our Services you use.
2.1 Information you provide to us
- Identity and contact data: name, email address, phone number, and similar details you submit through forms, tour bookings, or account registration.
- Account data: username and login credentials when you create an account on our member portal.
- Booking and membership data: workspace plan, booking dates, and membership preferences.
- Communications: the content of messages you send us via contact forms, email, or WhatsApp.
- Marketing preferences: your choices about receiving marketing communications from us.
2.2 Academy enrolment data
If you enrol in a GarageHub Academy program through our website, we collect basic enrolment details such as your name, email address, phone number, and selected course or program. Any additional information required for a specific cohort is collected and handled offline, separately from this website.
2.3 Property Desk data
If you express interest in GarageHub Property Desk through our website, we collect the contact and enquiry details you submit (such as your name, phone number, email, and the property or plan you are interested in).
Documents used for property verification and due diligence — such as identification or proof of income — are collected and handled offline, and are treated as confidential client documents. We do not collect sensitive identity or financial documents through this website at this time.
In future, we may introduce an online “know your customer” (KYC) flow for customers who wish to purchase property in instalments directly through the website. If we do, we will update this policy to describe what is collected, how it is protected, and the safeguards that apply to such sensitive personal data under the NDPA.
2.4 Payment data
When you make a payment, it is processed by our third-party payment processor, Paystack. We do not collect or store your full card number, CVV, or bank login details on our own systems. Paystack handles that data under its own security standards and privacy policy.
2.5 Information we collect automatically
When you visit our website, we automatically collect certain technical data through cookies and similar technologies, including:
- device and browser type, operating system, and screen settings;
- IP address and approximate location;
- pages visited, time spent, referring URLs, and interactions with our site;
- analytics identifiers from tools such as Google Analytics.
We also use WhatsApp Business to communicate with you when you choose to contact us via WhatsApp. Messages you send through WhatsApp are also subject to WhatsApp’s own privacy terms. See Section 8 (Cookies) for more detail and your choices.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use your personal data for the following purposes:
- to provide, operate, and manage our Services (coworking bookings, Academy enrolment, Property Desk transactions);
- to create and manage your member account;
- to process payments and send receipts or invoices;
- to respond to your enquiries and provide customer support;
- to send you service-related communications (e.g. booking confirmations, course updates, transaction status);
- to send you marketing communications and newsletters, where you have consented or where otherwise permitted by law (you can opt out at any time);
- to improve and personalise our website and Services through analytics;
- to verify identity and carry out due diligence for Property Desk transactions;
- to comply with legal, regulatory, tax, and contractual obligations; and
- to detect, prevent, and address fraud, security issues, or misuse of our Services.
4. Our Legal Basis for Processing
Under the NDPA and GDPR, we rely on one or more of the following lawful bases to process your personal data:
- Consent — for example, when you subscribe to marketing emails or accept non-essential cookies. You may withdraw consent at any time.
- Performance of a contract — to deliver the Services you sign up for, such as a coworking membership, course, or property transaction.
- Legal obligation — to comply with applicable laws, including tax, accounting, and anti-fraud requirements.
- Legitimate interests — to operate, secure, and improve our business, provided these interests are not overridden by your rights.
5. How We Share Your Information
We do not sell your personal data. We share it only in the following circumstances:
- Service providers: trusted third parties who help us operate our Services, such as payment processors, hosting providers, email and analytics tools.
- Property developers: where you choose to purchase a property directly from a developer through us, we share the buyer information necessary to complete that transaction. We do not otherwise share your data with developers.
- Professional advisers: lawyers, accountants, and auditors where necessary.
- Legal and regulatory authorities: where required by law, court order, or to protect our rights, users, or the public.
- Business transfers: in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to this policy.
6. International Data Transfers
Some of our service providers may be located outside Nigeria or your home country. Where we transfer personal data internationally, we take steps to ensure it is protected by appropriate safeguards consistent with the NDPA and, for EEA/UK users, the GDPR (such as standard contractual clauses or transfers to jurisdictions with adequate protection).
7. How Long We Keep Your Data
We retain personal data only for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes described in this policy, including to satisfy any legal, accounting, tax, or reporting requirements. When data is no longer needed, we securely delete or anonymise it. Property and financial transaction records may be retained for longer where required by law.
8. Cookies and Tracking Technologies
We use cookies and similar technologies to operate our website, remember your preferences, and understand how our site is used. We use both essential cookies (required for the site to function) and non-essential cookies (such as analytics cookies from Google Analytics).
You can control non-essential cookies through our cookie banner and through your browser settings. Blocking some cookies may affect how the website works. For full detail, see our [Cookie Policy — link].
9. Your Rights
Subject to applicable law, you have the right to:
- access the personal data we hold about you;
- request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data;
- request deletion of your data in certain circumstances;
- object to or restrict certain processing;
- withdraw consent at any time (without affecting prior lawful processing);
- request a copy of your data in a portable format; and
- lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority — in Nigeria, the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC).
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at hello@garagehub.africa. We will respond within the timeframe required by applicable law.
10. How We Protect Your Data
We implement appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your personal data against unauthorised access, loss, misuse, or alteration. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
11. Children’s Privacy
Our website and online Services — including coworking, the Academy career transition program, and Property Desk — are intended for adults aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children through this website.
GarageHub also runs a summer school program and a secondary school partnership program, which may involve participants under the age of 18. These programs are operated primarily offline, and any personal data relating to minors in connection with them is collected and managed offline with the consent of a parent or legal guardian, in accordance with the NDPA. Such data is not collected through this website.
If you believe a child has provided us with personal data through our website without appropriate consent, please contact us at [privacy@garagehub.africa] and we will take steps to delete it.
12. Third-Party Links
Our website may contain links to third-party websites or services. We are not responsible for their privacy practices, and we encourage you to review their privacy policies.
13. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify you. Your continued use of our Services after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
14. Contact Us
If you have questions, concerns, or requests regarding this Privacy Policy or your personal data, please contact hello@garagehub.africa.
